PREPARATION
PREPARING THE DOUGH
1.
Preheat oven to 400 F. Combine flour, 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp maple sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
2.
Cut in 5 tbsp butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
3.
Add the milk and figs, stirring until a soft dough forms.
BAKING THE BISCUITS
4.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drop the dough by heaping spoonfuls into 12 mounds, 2 inches apart.
5.
Melt the remaining 1 tbsp of butter and brush evenly over biscuits.
6.
Sprinkle the biscuits evenly with the remaining 3 tbsp of maple sugar.
7.
Bake at 400 F for 16 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden.
